Many people traveling on an F1 student visa find that they want to work to help make ends meet. The whole experience is fun studying abroad, but it can be expensive. That being said, there are work opportunities under certain conditions. If you are planning on working while you’re in Nevada on an F1 student visa, then you have to check out the rules and regulations.

What the rules state first of all is that you can’t work off campus during your first year of study. So if this is your first trip overseas to study abroad in Nevada, you need an on-campus job. There are typically plenty of on campus jobs available, but there are a lot of students who want them. Keep that in mind as you weigh out whether or not you can make it in Nevada without a part-time job.

Also keep in mind that it’s not easy to study full-time and work part-time. It sounds easy enough, but there can be scheduling issues. I worked full-time and went to school full-time. It wasn’t easy, and I was always tired. You are wanting to enjoy sightseeing in Nevada, and you can’t do that if you’re working and studying all the time.

You have to do what you have to do for sure. Yet you want to make sure that the study abroad experience is for you. Are you going to enjoy yourself? Are your studies going to suffer because you’re trying to work too much? Understand as well that you don’t want to break the rules.

The last thing you want is to create trouble for yourself. I was under the impression this last summer that I was meeting some students who weren’t supposed to be working at all, much less extra hours. It was none of my business, so I kept to myself. They are just trying to make it and survive while having money to enjoy themselves and study abroad.

It can’t be easy for someone traveling to a new country, and then there are all these rules. I do, however, urge you to follow the rules because the system is the system. If you get caught up in the system, it could cause problems for you. You don’t want to plan this awesome experience studying abroad in Nevada, only to break the rules and find trouble.

The being said, after your first year, you are allowed to work off campus. This means that you can apply for jobs anywhere you like. Yet you have to realize that it can take time to land a job. So again, you don’t want to be low on funds and be completely reliant upon getting a job. These days, jobs can be difficult to come by.

The employer I worked for last summer part-time did a good job hiring people on student visas. He helped them make the money they needed in order to sustain themselves and have a good time. At the same time, this meant his restaurant was going to have a high turnover rate. You can imagine that some businesses aren’t going to like having to deal with that.

Take note of that in terms of where you apply to work. Check into work opportunities ahead of time if you can. Think about the location, too. You want to travel to Nevada on an F1 student visa, but have you decided on a city. Certain cities are going to better for students traveling on an F1 visa.

Take Las Vegas for example. It may not seem like the best place for a student, but it is a major city. Employment opportunities are in abundance, and the city is going to be used to tourists. As a student studying abroad, you’re not a typical tourist, but it will be easier to find temporary work for the season.

Whether you travel to Las Vegas or another city, now you know more about what to expect in terms of work opportunities. Follow up on the rest of the rules and regulations so that you abide by them.
